Why Now Is The Time To Install Bifold Doors

April 16, 2019 by Matthew

As we’re coming out of the winter, your attention may be turning to spruce up your home for the summer. Start home improvement project, allowing you to make the most of the good weather that’s (hopefully) on the way.

If you have a garden at your property, you should certainly be looking at how bifold doors in the UK can allow you to make the most of your outdoor space once the warmer weather arrives.

Given that open-plan living areas are growing in popularity, it makes sense to extend this to include your garden in the summer months, and bifold doors will allow you to do this effortlessly.

These kinds of doors fold back out of the way, essentially opening out a room and allowing the warm summer weather to flow. To truly make the most of this kind of feature, you should look for ways to introduce continuity between your outdoor furniture and the decor in your living room or kitchen.

Dezeen recently shared an example of a home where bifold doors were introduced to great effect. The project by Gruff Architects on a terraced house in London used bifold doors to help link the indoor living areas with a “previously disconnected garden”.

The architects extended the rear elevation of the property and installed bi-fold doors to allow the family to open their kitchen-dining area up to the outside space when the weather permits.

An outbuilding at the end of the garden can be a workspace, also featuring bi-fold doors that allow plenty of light into the room giving it that spacious quality it was previously lacking.

Aside from the fact that we’re just coming into spring, now is also a great time of year to carry out such improvements on your property because it’s National Home Improvement Month. NAEA Propertymark recently revealed that homeowners in the UK have spent an average of £8,000 each on doing up their properties in the last five years.

While the majority (55 per cent) of homeowners made changes to improve the appearance of their property, 23 per cent of those questioned carried out DIY projects specifically to boost a property’s value or because they thought it would be a good investment.

Even if you’re carrying out work for your benefit, it never hurts to think about how it could boost the value of a house.

A kitchen makeover was one of the top suggestions from NAEA Property Mark for homeowners who want to boost the value of their property. Meanwhile, a well-kept garden was a high selling point and one that could be showcased more effectively if you have bifold doors that open onto your outdoor space.

Installing double glazing if you don’t already have it was another top tip from the organisation, which described this feature as “an essential for many house hunters”.
