Glazing natural light brightens any home and changes the appearance of the property. Large amounts of glazed areas make the garden feel part of the house.
Homeowners often get confused about U values of glazing areas. The lower the U value, the more efficient the glazing is at retaining the heat in the home. The lower the U value of your home the lower your energy bill.
Solar control in bifolding doors
South-facing bifolding doors should have solar control glass. Every bifolding door sealed unit supplied by the bifolding door factory has either Argon or Krypton gas in the glazing cavity. Argon is the most popular because of the cost. Either of these gases in the glazing cavity combined with a warm edge spacer bar offers a good U value. We always use a soft coat Low E glass on the inside panel of the unit. To obtain a solar controlled unit, you add a tinted pane of glass to the outside. Some clients also like the easy clean tinted glass as this helps to keep the doors look great.
Pilkington glass in bifolding doors
Pilkington glass has been in the glass industry for 180 years. For the past 20 years, most properties have installed double glazing. Many clients are today changing their new double glazing and installing better U value glazing. In the bifolding door market, we have found more and more clients are now requesting even lower U values which can only be obtained by triple glazing with krypton gas filling.
Planitherm glass in bifolding doors
Saint Gobain Glass produces the Planitherm glass which is a new generation of energy-saving window glass and the most energy-efficient available. Its advanced coating technology reflects radiated heat back into the room, rather than allowing it to escape through the windows. At the same time, Planitherm allows free heat and light from the sun to pass through the glass.
The result? – Lighter, brighter, warmer and more energy-efficient homes thanks to the excellent thermal insulation which is three times more efficient than single glazed units and at least 25% more efficient than most installed double glazing.
