Why Bifold Doors Are Becoming The Popular Choice Among Homeowners

April 5, 2019 by Matthew

Bifold doors have been around for the last few years, but their popularity does not seem to be waning with many homeowners still swapping their traditional patio or French doors with this more modern alternative.

The question is why are bifold doors still the most favourable choice and will this continue for years to come?

– Extend the house into the garden

Their main selling point is that their floor-to-ceiling windows allow maximum levels of natural light to fill the room. You can enjoy seeing as much of your garden or outdoor space as possible without any obstruction of the doors’ frame.

By opening up the room into the garden, it helps extend the living space so you can enjoy the outdoors in the warmth and comfort of your home — ideal in the UK when most of the year is cold, windy or rainy. Even on sunny days, it can still be particularly chilly, so by turning your outdoor space into a usable room, you will be able to feel like you’re outside without having to wrap up warm!

– Modern and stylish

It is undeniable that many people prefer aluminium bifold doors because they are more stylish than their predecessors. As there is a greater proportion of glass in these windows, they are less conspicuous than a patio or French doors and make the entire design of the room feel much more modern.

You can pick the colour of the frame you want, the direction they fold, and whether they made in aluminium. So you’re bound to find the right bifold doors that suit your house perfectly.

– Future-proof

As bifold doors have much lower thresholds than patio doors, they are ideal for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility as you don’t have to clamber over a high threshold to get outside, making the garden much more accessible.

Even if everyone in your house is non-disabled, having bifold doors means you do not have to change them in years to come as you become less mobile. It also helps to improve your property’s saleability if it is as wheelchair-friendly as possible – and bifold doors are certainly easier for disabled people than other options.

– Weather-proof

While they allow homeowners to feel as though they are outside while sitting in their living room or kitchen-diner, bifold doors are very much weather-proof, which means you will never feel cold with these installed.

Many bi-fold doors have thermal insulating properties, so your room will stay warm in the winter, but it also will not overheat during the summer months.
